India since Independence through Bollywood Cinema: Articles & Journals

Published by the Department of Film Studies, Jadavpur University. JMI seeks to address a broad set of issues ranging from formal properties of the moving image to the social foundation of its production, transmission and reception. There is a special focus on India and South Asia, and on issues of transnational media transactions, but the journal offers a wide range of discussion on film and television from various parts of the world.

a blind peer-reviewed journal, published biannually. It encourages theoretical and empirical research both on located screen practices and wider networks, linkages, and patterns of circulation. This involves research into the historical, regional, and virtual spaces of screen cultures, including globalized and multi-sited conditions of production and circulation.

Journal of the Moving Image (JMI) seeks to represent critical work on the state of contemporary screen cultures. There are many regions in our neighbourhood with large viewing populations, often with vast production infrastructures for film and television; but corresponding institutions or forums for critical engagement with such audio-visual regimes are still highly inadequate in Sotuh Asia.

Wide Screen is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the study of cinema, television and new media. Every issue includes a range of work, ranging of academic essays to film and book reviews, interviews etc, bringing together a variety of people with their varied interests. From the very beginning, one of our primary aims was to create a resource that contributes to the growing practice of open-access to knowledge. This continues to be the our firm political belief and our driving force.
