About the Conference

The Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference is an annual library conference discussing current issues and trends in library and information services. Formerly, it is also called Library Connect (2011-2018), International Conference on Emerging Global Trends in University Library Development (ICEGTULD - 2019).

Objectives

  • Increase awareness about emerging trends and development in librarianship,
  • Advance professional networks and international cooperation,
  • Inspire research ideas,
  • Introduce international experts,
  • Ensure constructive exchange of information, best practices, and lessons,
  • Establish conversation between researchers and practitioners, 
  • Expose to the diversity of libraries issues and solutions,
  • Enable to modify actions.

Theme

This year the Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference is back to on-site mode with the theme “Open Access to Knowledge and Libraries: Achievements and Trends" to witness the present state of open access to knowledge (Open Science, Open Educational Resources, OA technologies, etc.), the role and tasks of university libraries in promoting open access and discuss potential future developments worldwide.

Conference Logo

The conference logo is a composition of several parts:
ealc logoAbbreviations of the name of the conference - “EALC” (Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference) with the date and venue (Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan);
Panorama view of Astana is above the abbreviation of the conference name;
Symbol of the unity of Europe and Asia, depicted in the form of two oval figures, under the Shanyrak is on the left side. Shanyrak is a round shape that depicts the ceiling of a yurt, which for Kazakh people is a symbol of a home, the unity of the earthly and the sublime, an heirloom.
The colors of the logo are from the Nazarbayev University corporate palette. The burgundy color symbolizes dignity, strength, and solidarity; green is for hope, friendship, education, honor, and aspiration.

Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan is responsible for  language policy, science, quality of higher and postgraduate education and science, digitization of higher, and postgraduate education. 

Association of Libraries of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The Association was established as a legal entity in October 2012 in the City of Taraz. It is one of the young and promising associations. The aim is to unite university libraries as part of the professional community, capable of expressing and defending the interests of the library as a social institution in the face of state power and civil society, in the interests of effective cooperation, exchange of ideas and developing a joint approach to solving the problems of educational institutions through libraries. Today, the Association has more than 30 member libraries.

Nazarbayev University Library

The Library was established in 2010 to support the research and information needs of the autonomous organization of Nazarbayev University. It contains close to 200,000 volumes including printed and electronic books, microfiches and DVD-ROMs mainly in English language. The library follows the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) Scheme for organizing its print collection. It also boasts a vast amount of more than 100 electronic databases catering to the needs of its academic and scientific community and is mostly available off campus. It is one of the advanced academic libraries in Central Asia and the first to offer and introduce 24/7 access to its readers after the expansion was opened in 2018. It regularly holds annual programs such as the Road Show, Information Literacy Race, Human Library, Week of Women, and many interesting activities that are in demand by the university community. The library also promotes reading among children of the university staff.


Ethics for Participants

The organizers advise each participant to observe the following etiquette practices. Your solidarity shows utmost respect to speakers and co-participants. 

  1. Always be on time to check in to the conference. It is recommended that you come to the assigned room 10 minutes before the actual start of the event.
  2. The conference registration team will check attendance for those requesting e-certificates. We strongly recommend using your first and last name when you register. 
  3. Open forum for asking questions to speakers. Please raise your hand and use the table mic for asking questions by pressing the button during the Open forum. Kindly mention your first and last name, institution, and country.
  4. We request your full attention. If nothing is urgent, please avoid replying to other things not associated with the conference.
  5. If you are an online presenter, we kindly request you to prepare a backup presentation in case technical difficulties arise.
  6. To accommodate more questions, we advise you to ask concise questions. Introduce yourself as short as possible and directly ask your questions.
  7. Most importantly, let us respect each other by using positive language. The conference organizers reserve the right to ban any participant that shows disrespect or uncalled for behavior.
