Requirements and Submissions guidelines

The Young Professional Award recognises a newly qualified library professional who has demonstrated outstanding potential in their current employment role or research. The recipient must have demonstrated an exceptional quality of performance that indicates they will become a great library professional. 

Requirements & Submission

To be considered for recognition as a Young Professional, the candidate must comply with the following requirements:

1. The candidate obtained their first professional degree in Library and Information Science (LIS) within the last 5 years.
2. Nominees who are citizens of Kazakhstan are eligible to apply.
3. Self-nominations are welcomed.
4. The successful candidate must attend the EALC 2024 conference. 

Nominations must be submitted by email to ealc@nu.edu.kz with the subject line “EALC Young Professional Award Nomination” before 29 February 2024  and should include the following data:

1. Nominee name and email address
2. A short bio, including a summary of education and employment history (in English, Kazakh or Russian).
3. A nomination justification providing the rationale for the nomination (this can be in the body of the email) - 1000-1500 words (in English, Kazakh or Russian).
4. Letter of support/recommendation from the current employer or thesis supervisor (if just graduated). 
5. Other references are optional.
6. Google Scholar/Scopus links (if applicable).

Award Process and Criteria

The award committee will choose one Young Professional Award winner from the submitted applications after conducting their assessment. The award committee members may also conduct their own assessment to identify additional potential candidates.

The selected recipient will be notified by email by 1 April 2024 and presented with the award during the 2024 EALC conference. 

The award committee composition:

• EALC Organising Committee Chair
• Nazarbayev University Representative 
• External reviewer 

Important: 

The successful applicant will receive an invitation to the Conference and be provided with accommodation.

The attendee must cover travel expenses. 

The award committee's decision is final, and no appeal process is available.
