Resources to support teaching during pandemic and latest research

According to the President Declaration "On the state of emergency in the Republic of Kazakhstan" as of 15 March 2020 starting from March 16th, 2020 Nazarbayev University campus is taking necessary measures to ensure the health of our community until improvement of an epidemiological situation in our country.

Following the recent decision of the State Commission on the Ensuring the State of Emergency under the President of Kazakhstan, please be aware of the Library updates:


  • Students / Faculty / Staff may keep library materials if they need them for studies/research for the duration of quarantine and return when they back to the University. Please proceed to Borrow / Return tab for more details.


  • Starting from 28 March 2020
    • the library is closed for visiting. Please see Visiting tab for information about re-opening study spaces.
    • Reference service is provided online on Mon - Fri 8.30 am - 5.30 pm.
  • 24/7 schedule is canceled.


  • You can use electronic resources off-campus 24/7. Please check our FAQ.
  • Ask-a-Librarian, Chat, Interlibrary Loan will be available according to the schedule above through the Library portal.
  • Libguides will help to search for information and provide essential research support. 

4)    IMPORTANT! All library materials and personal belongings should be taken out from the library which must be vacant for cleaning and disinfection.


  • Visitors and temporary patrons are not permitted access to campus and Library starting March 14 until further notice.

Students-Residents of Nur-Sultan

Study Spaces in the Library extension building are open for students residents of Nur-Sultan. Please note that we have to limit capacity to 186 seats (1/3 in each reading room). 

  • Schedule
    • Monday-Friday at 10 am - 2 pm
  • Rooms available
    • Science room;
    • Culture room;
    • Comp lab;
    • Aliya room;
    • Astana room;
    • Quiet room;
    • Media Room.
  • Printing and scanning are available in Science and Culture rooms.
  • Books will not be available during visiting, please avail for books delivery service instead.
  • Access to Library will be provided via extension entrance, and access to atrium will be closed; 
  • Registration will be provided weekly on the registration form.

Students should pass Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) every two weeks in 5e.110 from 8:30 am-10:00 am.

Some Rules to remember

  • Only NU students are allowed at the Study Space;
  • Only students with valid RAT results are allowed to use the Study Space;
  • Students must have a student ID card with them all the time;
  • Students have to bring their own face masks; 
  • Students have to wear face masks all the time;
  • Students have to bring their own pocket sanitizers;
  • Students are not allowed to leave their study rooms other than for WC;
  • Students are not allowed to move the furniture in the study rooms;
  • No group work is allowed at the study space;
  • No food is allowed at the study space;
  • No personal belongings are allowed to be left in the study space before leaving;
  • No deviation from the route to the Study Space and back.
  • In case of violation of the Rules a student will be denied access to the Study Space;
  • By registering you consent with the rules of Study Space and bear responsibility for breaking instructions.

Book Borrow / Return

Students, faculty, and staff can borrow or return the books at their convenience. The service can be arranged via online request form or

The library coordinators will inform you about the date and time for delivery or return.

The pick-up points are as follow (subject to change):

  • Highvill
  • Northern Lights
  • Entrance to NU campus on Kabanbay Batyr Ave. (to borrow)
  • Entrance to NU campus on Turan ave. (to return)

The book delivery to other cities via Kazpost is also considered.
